Vision Care successfully carried out the Nethralokana Sathkara CSR initiative in Danakiriya Village, Siyabalanduwwa, bringing essential eye care services to a rural community in need. The project took place at Danakiriya Primary School with the full support of the school principal, teachers, and local authorities, whose collaboration ensured its smooth and impactful execution.
This CSR initiative was launched at the request of the COYLE Ladies Chapter (CLC) as part of their wider Thibahatha Diya Dahara project for Danakiriya Village. The initiative, led by the premier personality for 2025/2026, Mrs. Kumari Fonseka, aims to uplift over 2,500 villagers through improvements in purified drinking water via a Reverse Osmosis plant, upgraded sanitary facilities, and enhanced educational support for Danakiriya Primary School.
Recognizing the urgent healthcare needs of the community, CLC partnered with Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s leading eye and hearing care provider, to address gaps in accessible vision and hearing services. In response, Vision Care initiated the Nethralokana Sathkara Eye Care Project, providing comprehensive eye screening and follow-up care free of charge.
Eye Camp Impact – Phase 01
The first phase was conducted on 8th August, where Vision Care organized a large-scale free eye camp for villagers.
Key highlights include:
- 800+ participants attending the screening
- 289 individuals identified with vision problems
- 7 cataract patients requiring urgent surgery
- 5 children diagnosed with squint
- Support from 20+ Vision Care professionals, ensuring high-quality diagnostics and patient care
This phase also included a paediatric education program to promote early detection, visual hygiene, and long-term eye health among children.
Community Benefit Through Fully Sponsored CSR Care
Every service provided—eye testing, hearing testing, consultations, and education—was fully funded by the Nethralokana Sathkara CSR initiative, ensuring all villagers received care completely free of charge. This reinforced Vision Care’s long-standing commitment to improving public eye health and reducing preventable vision loss.
Spectacle Voucher Distribution – Phase 02
The second phase, during which Vision Care distributed free Spectacle to all individuals identified as needing corrective lenses during the first phase. These vouchers enabled the community to access high-quality spectacles and hearing aids at no cost. Clinical reports and prescription data collected during the program highlighted recurring vision challenges within the population, especially uncorrected refractive error and age-related visual conditions.
Transforming Rural Healthcare Access
For many villagers, this was their first-ever opportunity to undergo a professional eye and hearing care assessment. The overwhelming response and gratitude demonstrated the critical need for accessible healthcare services in rural Sri Lanka.
The Nethralokana Sathkara project marks a significant continuation of Vision Care’s long-term initiative: the Vision Chart Distribution & Free Primary Eye Screening Program. Vision Care remains dedicated to supporting underserved communities, raising awareness, and ensuring that quality eye and hearing care is within reach for every Sri Lankan.
